“Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.” Rudolph Steiner

What is the Waldorf Woodlands School?

Responding to a need for an alternative to traditional learning, Waldorf Woodlands school was established in 2017 by parents and teachers committed to an education that develops the whole child and honors each stage of their development. We offer one of the most progressive, holistic curriculums of our time, with a faculty with over 100 years teaching experience in Waldorf education. Our school is truly a gem in Nairobi’s education landscape and formally recognized by the International Waldorf Association and the East African Waldorf Association.

At Waldorf Woodlands there is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning, as the core guiding principle to child education is the deep respect for the individual. We pay special attention to the unique qualities and competencies of each child, working in partnership with parents to support our children in developing their unique potential to the fullest.

Why do we need you?

With the increase in hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are seeking financial support to save our school. Our parent-led, faculty-driven Waldorf school is a not-for-profit insitution that is run by a governing council of dedicated parents and teachers. In years past, especially during times of financial challenges, our community has rallied to help the school to operate and stay open. However, in our 4 year history, we have never faced a crisis of this magnitude and scale. The Covid-19 pandemic has  brought us to our knees and we are at risk of losing our children's woodland sanctuary campus and beloved teaching staff.

How you can help...

In order to keep our doors open, we need to raise KES 4 million (USD 37,000). Due to the financial impact of the pandemic, our school lost over 50% of our tuition income. Your donations will help us to pay the rent arrears, our faculty salaries, our vendors and support staff, as well as clearing the outstanding debts that have hindered our school from thriving.

The very first Waldorf school was made possible through the request and finances of a private donor, Emil Molt. This philanthropic act enabled Rudolf Steiner to realize the vision to create an inspired education that would serve children all over the world. Your financial support will be vital to our survival and will make the difference in our sustainability and the promise of a bright future for Waldorf education in Kenya.

Donors who give over KES 10,000 ($92) will receive a special mention on our Woodlands Warbler newsletter.
