Hi Sunshine,

My name is Sitawa Wafula, a mental health blogger (and advocate).

I use my personal journey as a rape survivor in recovery from a dual diagnosis of epilepsy and bipolar to provide people in Africa (and of African descent) with the necessary information and support to not only handle mental health conditions but also deal with everyday life. My vision to a day where there will be access to mental health information and appropriate support for everyone in the continent.

I use my blog to share my recovery journey and ran Kenya’s first free mental health support line and provided support to over 11,000 Kenyans (now a whatsapp line reaching beyond Kenya) through my mental health social enterprise, My Mind, My Funk (MMMF)

When I got raped, I didn't have anyone to talk to and even after getting diagnosed with bipolar, I didn't have proper info about the illness, there were no support systems and medical support was way too expensive. Through MMMF we aim to bridge the gap in information and support. I have developed a program called Spring by MMMF that is tailor made to provide people with tools for everyday life.

It has been 6 months for me without having a seizure or an episode of mania and/or depression, I am currently doing #100daysofMentalHealth campaign where i am using everyday things to boost my mental health and documenting on my Instagram and Facebook pages.

I would like to them share this with people across Africa so any support to enable us host awareness drives across the continent and provide people in Africa with the information they need to handle mental health conditions and skills to handle everyday life are well.

Sending love and light,
