Nyokabi Gethaiga is a Kenyan born actress/Model/Singer/Songwriter. She started acting at the young age of 8 where her first performance was as a street urchin at a school play. As she grew, so did her passion for the art of theater. She went on to feature in plays all through high school and even wrote one of her own titled “Are you sure” in which she starred in, playing the role of a young elite businessman by the name Jimmy.
Nyokabi later on went to the United States where she pursued an undergraduate degree in Biology and Environmental studies. Upon returning to Kenya, she further pursued a post-graduate diploma in Community Health where she graduated at the top of her class with honors. Later on, she decided to take her acting career to the next level. She joined a local theatre group called Phoenix players where she did a number of plays, among them, “Propose Me” as Hilda and Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” as Katherine, the shrew. Nyokabi’s screen debut came about when she was given the role of Hanna in a UK produced film, “I Am Slave”, directed by Gabriel Range (Death of a President, The Day Britain Stopped) where she acted alongside the talented Isaach De Bankolé (Casino Royale, 24). She went on to secure a role in a feature film called “Going Bongo”, released  in 2014, directed by Dean Mathew Ronalds an upcoming director from Los Angeles, California. She has also appeared in “Nairobi Half Life” and secured the main act in a short film (untitled) by upcoming LA film producer, Jason Byrne. Nyokabi was also part of the supporting cast in the exciting Mnet series Kona, where she played the role of an amateur female boxer. She also had a role in “The House” directed by Wanuri Kahiu (Pumzi, From a whisper) airing on the Zuku network. It is also quite evident that Hollywood has their eye set on her.  Earlier in 2012, Nyokabi was contacted by Francine Maisler Casting in Los Angeles to audition for the role in Steve McQueen’s, “Twelve Years a Slave”, alongside Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Quvenzhané Wallis and Adepero Oduye. Unfortunately after auditioning, the part went to another well deserving actress, but this only acted as an inspiration for Nyokabi and she continues to pursue her dream with the same enthusiasm and dedication.
Most recently, the young budding actress got accepted to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles, California where they have awarded her with three scholarships as a result of her outstanding performance while auditioning. She hopes to attend the Academy in January next year.
Other than acting, Nyokabi has a passion for music and has composed a few of her own songs which are soon to be released. She is also a model and competed in the New York Model search where she made it to the final round. Nyokabi is also an active environmentalist working on her own conservation movement called “The Let Live Movement”. She also loves to play the guitar and is an avid reader.
