Against the Odds - A Life Changing Opportunity for Lawrence
My name is Lawrence Ogina and I live in Nairobi, Kenya. I am 23 years old and passionate about engineering and dance. Orphaned when I was 10 years old, life has not been easy and I have had to overcome some serious hardship and challenges along the way. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel and I would welcome your support to help me pursue a life changing opportunity of a university education in the USA. This is my story....
Whilst I was very fortunate to receive a scholarship for secondary school in Kenya (and attain high grades), unfortunately with no further financing available, university was not an option. I subsequently found temporary work on construction sites and in restaurants, but neither really worked out. However, my life and my dreams of becoming a ballet dancer and a civil engineer were transformed when, in 2014, I was introduced to Artists for Africa, a US registered 501(c) 3 organization established to transform the lives of underprivileged children through dance.
Thanks wholly to support from Artists for Africa, my academic promise and my dance/ballet ability have been recognised and, with their support and belief in me, my life has been transformed - I have been awarded a life changing opportunity to study Civil Engineering (with Dance) at the University of South Carolina (College of Engineering and Computing), commencing July 2019. This is an absolutely amazing opportunity but I still need some financial support - and I must raise the $27,000 fees to be allowed to start my first semester.
I have been very lucky to have support from some amazing people in this world who have already helped me raise U$17,000 towards my university fees and all I need is a further U$10,000. Can you help me?
This has been a long journey filled with ups and downs but now the light at the end of the tunnel is shining brightly and all it will take is a small donation from you to help me take the next step. I feel very grateful to have an opportunity like this and to have support that I did not even know existed whilst growing up. Anything that you can give towards my cause would be truly life-changing for me and hugely appreciated.
I am now desperately trying to raise the remaining U$10,000 and I would be SO pleased if you could find it in your heart to donate a few dollars. Every dollar will make a difference.
This is a huge opportunity for me and for my future and I am going to do everything I can to make it happen.
